Mentor

The Concept

Individual support from the mentor:

As mentees, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and academic and scientific staff receive tailored support from an experienced specialist, the mentor, in the form of a personal, one-to-one relationship. The mentor is always more highly qualified than the mentee and supports, fosters and advises the mentee on her further academic and profession career. All mentors are women.

Support programme with training courses, lectures and networks:

A support programme provides a forum which facilitates cross-discipline networking and contains seminars, training courses and lectures which are designed to foster the mentees' academic and professional development. You will take part on a seminar in preparation for your role as mentor. If you wish, you can also take part on all the training courses and seminars free of charge. The social programme is also free of charge.

The Structure

MentHo is offered within the University of Hohenheim in close cooperation with the faculties. Selection of mentors and mentees, together with the contents of the curriculum, are also aligned with the requirement profiles of the individual faculties.

External organisations and businesses can influence the matching process by creating requirement profiles for the mentee and by recruiting mentors for the programme from their own ranks.

The Goals

  • To support talented women in academia from an early stage
  • To share personal experiences
  • To give insights into unwritten rules and laws

  • by providing advice

             - by sharing personal experiences
             - by giving insights into unwritten rules and laws
             - by providing contacts

  • To build bridges between studies and career:

             - by providing contacts
             - by providing job-shadowing and work placements outside of the University

You can join the MentHo Programme by submitting you the relevant application form to the MentHo Office or by being proposed by a faculty. The selection and matching procedure is carried out by the MentHo Office.

Ten mentees can join the programme per faculty and per semester. We are always looking for new mentors to match the number of new mentees per semester.
